PAST AND MY DREAM

History

Olajide and associates Nigeria came into existence with her registration at the Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC) on the 26th June, 1998 but commenced operation as an accounting firm when the Institute Of Chartered Accountants Of Nigeria (ICAN) granted her a licence to operate in that capacity.

The firm started off with the staff of sister company Korporate consultants and nominees limited, but it was a tedious journey for a firm barely six month to contend with the big force of the auditing world of Nigeria. This made us work from Monday till Sunday to make up for the number of people in the firm. The resolve of Mr. Olajide in his resolve to make it big was not deterred by this.

The firm had operated at different locations such as a petty shop, Mr. Olajide’s living room before moving to obidairo’s house (583, Agege Motor Road, Shogunle) in 2003. Moving here also had its own challenges but with the commitment of the employees and the managerial skill of our managing partner we made tremendous progress in term of work, employees and clients. Today we are happy to be part of history celebrating a glorious ten years with our firm.

The past:

The firm had operated wholly as a one man organization where everybody waits on the managing partner’s decision before actions could be taken even on task that does not need his decision, this slowed down majority of work to be done, resulting in clients complaints and more member of staff cannot grow their decision making techniques for this, the firm opens 8am but has no closing time because the managing partner believes work only start in the evenings in an account department more work is left undone as most people wait for evenings before engaging in something meaningful but time is always too short to cover a large ground.

Office environment has always not being conducive as files litter tables, and the “I don’t care” attitude of member of staff towards cleaning is not good for the firm.

This had in many ways affected the development of the employees and the firm on one side and clients relationship on the other.

Future:
The olajide and associates nigeria of my dream is a place where decision making is broad based, a place where we won’t wait solely on the managing partner to direct our actions as well as decisions. Where every member of staff would be able to make and execute decisions that will positively affect the firm, a place where stardard is our watchword. Where employees will challenge themselves on acheivements.
The Olajide and Associates Nigeria of my dream is a conducive work environment: An uncivil environment is a poor environment to work in. It is not condusive to a useful and positive mind to achieve a set outcome from an already difficult situation. Remember, a good working environment is just one element to improve productivity and creativity. The more important aspect is personal relations with employees and partners. Where people are encouraged to voice out their concerns, best ideas, and share best practices to help improve the current system. Where partners learn to listen attentively and be generous if you have extra money to employees who have made a mark.
The olajide and associates nigeria of my dreams is a place where Motivation “A reward, tangible or intangible, is presented after the occurrence of an action (i.e. behavior) with the intent to cause the behavior to occur again. This is done by associating positive meaning to the behavior. Studies show that if the person receives the reward immediately, the effect would be greater, and decreases as duration lengthens. Repetitive action-reward combination can cause the action to become habit.
Rewards can also be organized as extrinsic or intrinsic. Extrinsic rewards are external to the person; for example, praise or money. Intrinsic rewards are internal to the person; for example, satisfaction or a feeling of accomplishment.

  • Motivated employees always look for better ways to do a job.
  • Motivated employees are more quality oriented.
  • Motivated workers are more productive” Is taken personnally by the management team.

Where Training is a common place - The term training refers to the acquisition of knowledge, skills, and competencies as a result of the teaching of vocational or practical skills and knowledge that relate to specific useful competencies. It forms the core of apprenticeships and provides the backbone of content at technical colleges and polytechnics. In addition to the basic training required for a trade, occupation or profession, observers of the labor-market recognise today the need to continue training beyond initial qualifications: to maintain, upgrade and update skills throughout working life. People within many professions and occupations may refer to this sort of training as professional development.
Some commentators use a similar term for workplace learning to improve performance: training and development. One can generally categorize such training as on-the-job or off-the-job:

  • On-the-job training takes place in a normal working situation, using the actual tools, equipment, documents or materials that trainees will use when fully trained. On-the-job training has a general reputation as most effective for vocational work.
  • Off-the-job training takes place away from normal work situations — implying that the employee does not count as a directly productive worker while such training takes place. Off-the-job training has the advantage that it allows people to get away from work and concentrate more thoroughly on the training itself. This type of training has proven more effective in inculcating concepts and ideas.

A place where Jobs are designed to be within the capabilities of employees; The organisation provides employees with adequate and achievable demands in relation to the agreed hours of work, People’s skills and abilities are matched to the job demands, Jobs should be designed and reffer to employees with the capabilty to do them with less stress and time, employees should also challenge themselves to taking up more tasking jobs, and
Employees’ concerns about their work environment are addressed. Remember, a good working environment is just one element to improve productivity and creativity. The more important aspect is personal relations with employees and partners. Encourage your people to voice out their concerns, best ideas, and share best practices to help improve the current system. Learn to listen attentively and be generous if you have extra money.
